The Flying Dutchman is doomed to cruise the seven seas forever. He returns to land every seven years to win the love of a woman who is faithful unto death and thus escape his curse. But his hope fades, he wishes for death. There he meets Daland and his crew, who, after seeing the Dutchman’s treasures, offer him his daughter Senta as a wife.
