“Anyone who has already absorbed a good deal of Viennese waltz will be well served by the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra’s “With Rossini into the New Year” concert…
In addition to works by Gioachino Rossini, pieces by four other (French) composers will be performed. The Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, under its Chief Conductor James Gaffigan, is already in the limelight with “Le Carnaval romain” by Hector Berlioz in brilliant disposition. No less impressive in the first part of the program are two waltzes by Charles Gounod: those from the barely known opera “La Reine de Saba” and the much more famous one from “Faust”. The orchestra plays both waltzes impulsively with beautiful timbres and rich string sounds.”

It has been an incredible four weeks in the US. I saw so many friends, returned to four great orchestras, worked on beautiful repertoire with wonderful soloists and artists, re-explored the cities, visited my children in LA, and had some amazing food.
